A LITTLE CLARITY, ACROSS TIME ZONES.

Sources, Accuracy & Calculation Method

Useful information for a clearer view of time.

Where the times come from

TimeThere is an independent browser-based utility. The live clock starts with your device’s clock; it is not synchronized to an atomic clock or a TimeThere time server. An incorrectly set device clock produces an incorrect live time.

We use JavaScript’s Intl.DateTimeFormat with named IANA time zones to format an instant for each city. The IANA Time Zone Database records UTC offsets and civil-time rules; browsers and operating systems distribute their own versions of that data. TimeThere does not fetch the latest IANA release on every visit.

Live calculations and published reference tables

The live clock and converter run on your device. City reference tables are generated when we build the site using the build environment’s Intl data. Each table states its year, sample dates and generation date. A monthly snapshot is not a transition calendar: an offset can change between samples. Build and browser data may disagree after a government changes a rule.

Dates that repeat or do not exist

When interpreting an entered local date and time, we find the UTC offsets around that date and check which instants map back to the requested wall-clock time. If the clock moved forward and skipped the time, we show an error. If the clock moved back and the time occurred twice, you choose which occurrence to use. We do not silently select an occurrence.

What the meeting planner checks

The planner compares the chosen duration with a default 09:00–18:00 window in all selected cities. It does not connect to personal calendars or check weekends, public holidays, travel schedules or individual availability. Shared links preserve an exact instant. Calendar downloads create a single UTC event and do not send invitations.

Editorial approach and corrections

Guides explain the tool with dated examples. City tables are calculated from time zone data rather than copied from another clock website. Examples should be read with their stated date and year. When a calculation looks wrong, first check the reference city, date, AM/PM choice and device time, then try an updated browser. Include the affected page and named cities when reporting a problem; never include private meeting details.

Time zone policies can change after publication. Verify a flight, legal deadline or other critical schedule with its organizer. This limitation applies to both live calculations and reference text.
